Ideaworks3D announces Airplay for Texas Instruments OMAPVox platform, bringing OpenKODE and advanced multimedia to feature phone handsets

Las Vegas, USA – 09:00 Apr 2nd, 2008

Ideaworks3D, a leading developer of native mobile technology and applications, today announced that its Airplay™ native execution environment has been optimised for Texas Instruments’ OMAPVox™ singlechip multimedia platform, and declared conformant with Khronos OpenKODE™ 1.0.

Airplay brings true native application performance without the overheads of a Virtual Machine, enabling stunning graphics and multimedia even on midrange platforms. When combined with the OMAPVox solution, handset manufacturers and operators can reap the benefits of a rich multimedia user experience from costefficient hardware.

Airplay fully supports OpenKODE 1.0, and has been declared conformant on far more platforms than any other provider. OpenKODE is a royaltyfree, open standard from the Khronos™ Group that combines a set of native APIs to increase source portability for rich media and graphics applications. OpenKODE reduces mobile platform fragmentation by providing a crossplatform API for accessing operating system resources, and a media architecture for portable access to advanced mixed graphics acceleration.

"The combination of TI’s OMAPVox solution and Airplay is a significant advance in bringing highperformance content to massmarket handsets," said Tim Closs, CTO of Ideaworks3D. “For too long, cumbersome software stacks have hidden users from the true power of the underlying hardware, but now TI’s flexible platform combined with Airplay will raise the bar in the massmarket”.

“OMAPVox is an affordable midrange platform that when combined with a native execution environment, delivers a compelling multimedia experience that developers can leverage across multiple market segments”, said Markus Tremmel, worldwide wireless ecosystem manager, TI. “OEMs choosing the OMAPVox solution can now utilise Airplay, running across multiple operating systems, to bring exciting multimedia applications to their handsets”.

Texas Instruments is demonstrating the advanced multimedia power of Airplay together with the OMAPVox platform at CTIA, April 1 – 3 in the Las Vegas Convention Center, booth 1048.

Ideaworks3D is a member of TI’s OMAP™ Developer Network, a group of leading software developers porting advanced applications to TI’s high performance, powerefficient OMAP processors. Handset manufacturers adopting OMAP devices enjoy the rapid deployment of compelling wireless applications – including streaming audio and video, multimedia messaging, gaming, security, speech recognition, location based services and mobile commerce – across all leading operating systems. Systems level integration services are also provided worldwide by independent OMAP Technology Centers. The OMAP platform has been selected by leading manufacturers, such as Motorola, Nokia, Palm, NEC, Fujitsu, LG Electronics, HewlettPackard, HTC, Samsung and many more, for their 2.5 and 3G wireless devices.
